Hunt for school bell

THE hunt is on to trace Newton Primary School’s old bell.

Pupils, teachers and dignitaries gathered to mark the centenary of the school and unveil the fully restored bell tower, which had been in a state of collapse. Former headteacher Allan Jones said the bell was removed long before he began working there in 1984.

If you know what happened to it, contact the school.

Many more events are planned this year to mark the school’s centenary. See the Gazette for details.
