Pupils’ fundraising designs are the business

CHILDREN set up their own greetings card business to raise money to help people in Ecuador.

Year Five and Six pupils at Maes-yr-Haul Primary School in Broadlands have designed their own cards and pitched their business plan to raise funds.

After pupils chose their favourite designs, the cards are set to be printed for them to take home.

Profits will go towards buying a computer for a community in Ecuador following the visit of Amazonian Juan Kunchikui to the school last year.

Money will also go towards funding a business for next year’s Year Five and Six classes.

Pupil Katie Abraham said taking part in the project was fun.

“I have really enjoyed it,” said the 10-year-old.

“We all got to make a card and then Year Five decided which ones would be made. I think it’s really nice.”

The children made the cards using collage, mixing photography with watercolours and chalk.

Lisa Tandy, higher level teaching assistant at the school, worked with pupils on the project.

“They have been so, so enthusiastic,” she said.

“The pupils came up with the idea. They have been doing business studies and we thought they would get the full benefit doing a business.”
