WALES’S hottest comic and radio star will co-host a show on Brynmawr radio.
Rhod Gilbert will present a two hour BRFM show on February 19 from 6pm and 8pm.
The Welsh funnyman will co-host the show with local DJ Steve Evans.
BRFM is a community station that you can listen to by tuning into 97.3fm or via the internet by logging onto www.brfm.co.uk.
As BRFM founder Rob Ball said: “The main advantage of community radio is because there are no shareholders to please, there is no play list to pander to, therefore we can play exactly what we and more importantly what you the requesting public want to hear.
“Disillusioned by the indifference that the commercial charts are met with these days, we here at the station will be recording singers for inclusion in our own BRFM Chart.
“We don’t just feature music though, we have lively debates on local issues, plus poems and short stories from local authors.”
The creators and founder members of BRFM also have other plans in the pipeline including local television.
“We have an initial streaming of four hours a week and depending on results, scope for much, much more,” Mr Ball said.
“As if radio and television were not enough, there is also an ongoing Brynmawr Audio Archive project, in which local residents, young and old reminisce and tell anecdotes specifically relating to Brynmawr and the surrounding areas, which are recorded and catalogued for posterity.
“We also have a WCVA-funded project, which is similar to the audio one but aims to keep a visual record of Brynmawr and the surrounding area as they are today.
“Add to that an independent film still in pre-production and you have a great deal more than just a radio station.”

Rhod Gilbert, who also presents a show on BBC Wales, is also bringing his new show Who’s Eaten Gilbert’s Grape to the Beaufort Theatre on February 28 at 8pm.
Gilbert picks up the story after his Perrier Newcomer-nominated show 1984.
