Performance charts history

THE story of Chartism is to be told in words and song.

Nantyglo and Blaina Charter Group presents Waiting At The Oak, a tale of 5,000 men who marched from the valleys of Gwent and assembled at the Welsh Oak where they waited for the order to march on Newport.

The event is performed by Frank Hennessy of BBC Radio Wales, The Hennessys, John Prior, Heather Jones and Sharon Morgan.

The performance, which will be supported by Ebbw Vale Choir, will take place in the Chartist Information Centre, Salem Chapel, Blaina, on Wednesday, November 7, at 7pm.

Tickets cost £3 and are available from Blaina Post Office or by calling 01495 292817.

An additional part of the commemoration is the Annual Presentation of Local Social History to take place in Nantyglo Rugby Club at 7pm on Friday, November 9.

The guest speaker for the evening is Brian Davies, curator of Pontypridd Town Museum.

Entrance to the presentation, inclusive of a buffet reception, is £3.
