Three found dead in Japan detergent suicide pact

Three men have been found dead in a car in an apparent suicide by inhaling lethal gas made from detergent.

Tominori Hirata, a police spokesman in Tomioka, north of Tokyo, said the three - all in their 20s and 30 – were found by a passer-by early today. The car was parked at a parking lot.

The deaths were the latest in a series of detergent suicides using mixed chemicals to generate deadly gas.

So-called detergent suicides have claimed more than 50 lives in the previous month.
