Age expertise is being harnessed

A CENTRE of excellence on ageing is being developed in Cardiff.

The British Geriatrics Society (BGS) has moved its headquarters in Wales to the T John Pathy offices in Cardiff, which already houses Age Concern Cymru, Age Alliance Wales and national pensioner organisations.

The building is named after Professor John Pathy, an eminent consultant in geriatric medicine, widely viewed as the “father figure” of the profession in Wales.

Prof Pathy is also president of Age Concern Cymru. He said: “I have long held the view that the BGS in Wales and Age Concern Cymru should have strong collaborative links. This need for a close working relationship has become even more pressing now that the charity is playing a significant role in increasing the awareness of older people about the National Assembly of Wales’ major strategy for health maintenance in this age group.”
