Bands ready to do battle

A NEW music academy will be launched with a battle of the bands competition this weekend.

The University of Glamorgan has teamed up with musical instrument manufacturer Roland to launch the UK’s first university-based music academy.

To celebrate the launch the founder of Roland, Ikutaro Kakehashi, will receive an honorary Professorship from the university on Friday and on Saturday a battle of the bands competition will be hosted at the new Atrium campus in Cardiff to celebrate young Welsh talent. The winning band will receive £3,000 worth of Roland equipment as well as three days recording time in one of the university’s recording studios.
