TV's Iolo is a gay icon

STRAPPING TV host Iolo Williams has revealed he has become an unexpected cult figure among Wales’ gay community.
The 45-year-old, from Builth Wells, Powys, heard the news from a pal after working on his S4C show Crwydro.
The programme features the nature expert interviewing celebrities as they walk through countryside they love.
But Iolo – an avid bird watcher – was startled to hear his subjects were not getting as much attention from sections of the audience in Newport as his tight-fitting shorts were.
The dad-of-two, married to wife Ceri, told Wales on Sunday: “A friend of mine, a girl who lives in Newport, told me about one of her mates who is gay, and said they have an informal gay club. One thing they did was tape my S4C programmes wearing my tight shorts and would get together in a bar to watch it.
“I was a little bit surprised at first but absolutely delighted. If they all watched my programmes it would probably double my audience!”
Game-for-a-laugh Iolo said he’d would be more than happy to pop out for a pint with his newfound fanbase.
He added: “If I go out there I might meet some of my fans and get taken out – it would be a great laugh.
“My family and wife laughed like hell. No, she didn’t get jealous.”
Iolo will chat about his iconic status on a two-hour radio show presented by Blue Peter host and Strictly Come Dancing contestant Gethin Jones on BBC Radio Wales tomorrow at 11am.
