AN innovative alternative care home is to be created in a South Wales town.
The scheme will be developed on council-owned land in Salisbury Road, Barry, which was formerly a children’s home and is currently used as office accommodation and as a base for the Youth Offending Service.
It will be close to the Cartref Porthceri Home for the elderly, creating what Councillor Stuart Egan, the Vale council’s cabinet member for social and care services, described as “an older people’s village”.
The development will include 40 flats to rent and will be funded through a National Assembly grant and the Hafod Care Association.
