VIP trips for children thanks to teacher

PAST Echo Champion Teacher Christine Smith is forging ahead with her efforts to help children.

The 44-year-old teaching assistant scooped our prestigious award in 2006 for her work at Phillipstown Primary School, New Tredegar.

Since then Christine has taken on a year-long pilot scheme which has seen the pupils enjoy VIP trips to places like London.

Part of the project has included an initiative, sponsored by The Arts Council for Wales, to bring live shows into the close knit community.
