A BRIDGE linking two communities is the latest eye-catching feature reviving a former colliery site.
The “bowstring” bridge, designed by artist John Packer, brings together Parc Coetir Bargoed and Bargoed woodland park and straddles the River Rhymney.
Its unusual design reflects the area’s former industrial use and is made from painted structural steel and locally-sourced Welsh oak for the decking.
Since work began on reclaiming the 200 acres of land where Bargoed and Britannia collieries churned out coal, a country park has emerged which belies its former heavy industry use.
