STUDENT Thomas Jones has been crowned young musician of the year for his area.
The Lewis School, Pengam sixth-former, who qualified for the final of Caerphilly county council’s competition on both piano and cello, wowed the judges with his performance of Rachmaniov’s Polichinelle at Blackwood Miners’ Institute.
Michael Newman, a fellow Lewis School Pengam sixth-form student, was awarded the Young Composer of the Year 2008 title after submitting a composition called The Lone Wandering Wind.
