Steel statue to mark role of the Chartists

AN eight-metre- high statue will mark the role Blackwood played in the 19th century Chartist Movement.

Artist Sebastien Boyesen has been commissioned to create the sculpture to commemorate the Chartist Bridge at Blackwood and the importance of the town in relation to the Chartists.

The statue depicts a Chartist defiantly marching across the landscape and will be made of stainless steel rings creating a mesh-like form. The artist will also be designing a bilingual sign for the Blackwood side of the bridge. The sculpture will be on the Oakdale side.
