PUPILS were due to go back to class today after their school was closed for safety reasons for two days.
Around 200 children were sent home last Thursday from Ysgol Gynradd Gymraeg Bargod in Gilfach, Bargoed, after rain brought a ceiling tile down in one of the classrooms.
Severe weather also damaged its roof and caused a shower of dust to fall over the pupils.
Headteacher Dilys Williams took the decision to send the children home.
Parents held a protest outside the school on Friday campaigning for better standards of educational facilities for their children and governors held an emergency meeting. Over the weekend parents formed an action group calling for a brand new school to be built on the existing site.
