Police to get on their bike thanks to watch team

POLICE have been given a helping hand to get on their bikes to combat crime.

A bicycle has been donated to officers patrolling Nelson in Caerphilly county, thanks to the Neighbourhood Watch Scheme.

Residents raised the money for the bike partly through grant aid from the local community council. It will be used by officers during their patrols of the area to help them cover more ground and meet more people.

David Spacey, secretary of Neighbourhood Watch said: “We are pleased to be able to provide the local Neighbourhood Policing Team with a bicycle after our success in raising the necessary funds.

“We hope that it will further help the local officers to have a high- visibility impact on the local community, and that it will assist in dealing with low-level crime, public disorder and anti-social behaviour.”

Pc Greg Turley said: “We are very grateful to the Nelson Neighbourhood Watch Scheme for donating the bike, which will hopefully enable us to cover more ground and meet with more local residents.”

PCSO Mathew Jones added his gratitude and said the bike would help them to address any issues people have with crime and disorder.
