‘We want our allotments back’

RESIDENTS’ group Ely Garden Villagers has welcomed the partnership agreement signed by the Liberal Democrats and Plaid Cymru on Cardiff County Council.

The partnership document signed by the parties has promised a fresh consultation on a highly controversial building programme in North Ely.

Ely Garden Villagers collected more than 1,400 signatures objecting to plans to build 250 homes in Snowden Road and a further 60 new dwellings on land at Pethybridge Road, Ely.

Spokeswoman for the group Tay Godfrey said she was delighted with the pledge for further consultation.

She said: “We want no building at all on these fields. What we would like is to have our allotments back. There is a queue of people wanting allotments in the Ely area and this is what the land should be used for.”
