Hall calls for more of the same from the fans

PAUL Hall last night hailed Wrexham‘s travelling support following Sunday’s derby victory over Chester – and called on the fans to drive the Dragons in their battle for survival.

Wrexham’s fight to secure their Football League status faces another tough test tonight with a trip to promotion-chasing Wycombe Wanderers, just two days after their 2-0 win at the Deva Stadium.

Sunday’s win brought the Dragons to within three points of safety, and midfielder Hall – whose opener at the Deva Stadium was his first goal for the Dragons – said the fans could play their part as the season reaches its crucial final phase.

“The fans were in good voice against Chester and that helped us a lot,” he said. “We need the support from the Wrexham faithful, and we need all the players and staff at the Racecourse to get behind us. But at the end of the day it’s up to us to make sure we do that. It’s in our hands now.”

Wrexham have games in hand over most of their relegation rivals, and crucially have played three games more than 22nd-placed Macclesfield Town, who lost at the weekend along with 23rd-placed Mansfield Town.

But Hall said Wrexham’s weekend result would count for nothing if they failed to build on it.

He said: “It’s no good having a result like that and not trying to get something against Wycombe.

“Having a look at the table now, it suddenly looks a lot rosier but now we’ve got to try and get as many points as we can.

“Wycombe have got a couple of good players up front, but we’ve shown that we have as well,” he added.

“We’ve shown we can beat teams with key personnel out, and we can go away to places like Chester and Peterborough and get a result.”

Wycombe are currently fifth and looking good for a place in the promotion play-offs, having won three of their last four games.

Manager Brian Little warned they’ll be extremely tough opponents tonight, but said his side were going into the game full of confidence.

“Wycombe are a strong team in a good position,” he said.

“But the fact we won on Sunday means we go into the game in good heart.
