County still in command of their destiny

THE stage is set for a dramatic end of season at Spytty Park as County face two final home games secure in the knowledge that success will propel them into the play-off places.

They let slip two points against an Eastbourne outfit who themselves secured the runners-up spot in Blue Square South behind champions Lewes as a result of this draw at Spytty Park.

County had led at half-time through another spectacular effort from Andy Gurney who has netted five goals since his February signing and the veteran midfield man once again directed operations for much of the game. But the hosts failed to build on his 26th minute strike, though four minutes later Ian Hillier was unlucky to see his header rebound clear from the underside of the bar.

Eastbourne replied through substitute Matt Crabb in the 64th minute, but County then squandered chances to win the game.

Manager Peter Beadle was in a philosophical mood ahead of tonight’s clash with Thurrock, saying: “This is not the time for inquisitions.”

The County boss expects to have record appearance maker Nathan Davies back again tonight after his partner gave birth to their daughter on Saturday.
