Hughes sent off as County earn vital point

COUNTY substitute Craig Hughes and Braintree’s Andy Porter were sent off in the second half of this otherwise good tempered match.

The result keeps County on course for a place in the Blue Square South promotion play-offs.

Newport are three points adrift of fifth-placed Fisher, who visit Spytty Park on the last day of the season – and Newport have a game in hand.

The match produced a season’s best crowd of 1,026, including a 500-strong travelling Newport contingent.

County substitute Sam O’Sullivan almost snatched the win in injury time, forcing a fine stop from ’keeper Nicky Morgan.
