King’s are crowned

Merthyr 0-2 Kings Lynn

THE Martyrs played second fiddle to a promotion party at Penydarren Park for King’s Lynn, the Norfolk side securing a 2-0 victory to lift the Southern League Premier Division title.

A goal in each half secured the win on a day when Merthyr saw little go for them and Craig Steins in particular was unlucky not to make the day a great deal more uncomfortable for the visitors.

A super save from visiting goalkeeper Scott Howie denied him on nine minutes before superb second-half goal-line clearances from Ben Chapman and Greg Crane ensured a clean sheet for the visitors.

Matt Nolan on 28 minutes and Jack Defty on 56 minutes got the all important goals, while Nolan missed a late penalty after a foul by Dale Griffiths.

Steve Williams was dismissed for Merthyr on 75 minutes following a clash with Kings Lynn’s Michael Frew but despite the defeat Merthyr finish their campaign in 13th place, one place higher than last season.
