MERTHYR Tydfil are mathematically safe from any dogfight relegation battle after their 3-0 victory over Cirencester Town on Monday night.
With just two games remaining of the season – at Hitchin Town tomorrow and promotion-chasing Kings Lynn a week tomorrow at Penydarren Park – the Martyrs can breathe a sigh of relief and play with freedom.
Manager Garry Shephard will have a series of meetings with the board in the coming weeks to see what financial resources are available to him next term.
“It’s been a well-known fact that we have not had a lot to play with as far as the playing budget has been concerned,” said Shephard.
“And I think that has been reflected in the position we have been in for most of the season. But the lads that have played for me have be top drawer and given me everything.
“We need to have more depth, because at one point I only had eight players available to me because of injuries and suspensions and that should never happen to a club like this.
“I have players in mind ready to join us next season, but I need to know exactly what my budget is for next season from the off.” said Shephard.
