Useful point for Martyrs

THE Martyrs gained a precious point in their quest to secure Southern Premier Division football for another season, although they must have been just a little disappointed not to have got the victory that would have put the matter to bed.

As it stands, Merthyr need the one victory from their remaining three league games with perhaps the best opportunity coming quickly this evening when relegated Cirencester Town visit Penydarren Park (7.45pm).

Gareth Warton came closest to breaking the deadlock, striking the woodwork with a far-post header.

The home team were unable to force a single save from Merthyr goalkeeper Ashley Morris.
