Martyrs let it slip

Bromsgrove 1-1 Merthyr

A DRAW on a sapping surface was just about a fair result, although the Martyrs will rue letting two points slip through a goalmouth clanger.

Darren Griffiths put the visitors in front with a dipping 18-yard volley on 52 minutes.

But eight minutes later, Merthyr gifted Bromsgrove an equaliser when goalkeeper Ashley Morris lost the flight of a Matt Bisley corner, and Sam Alsop headed into an empty net from six yards.

Alsop had earlier seen an effort cleared off the line by Marcus Griffiths, while scorer Darren Griffiths was only inches away with a shot on the turn.

After his goal, Griffiths twice went close to increasing Merthyr’s lead.

But Bromsgrove hit back and although Craig Steins and Gareth Warton both went close, the Martyrs had to settle for a point.
