MANCHESTER United defender Ryan Shawcross has today signed for Stoke City – and goes straight into the team for tomorrow’s Coca-Cola Championship match against Cardiff City at Ninian Park.
Shawcross, 19, had a spell on loan with Belgian club Royal Antwerp last season. He is a tall defender who will cause problems for Cardiff City at set pieces.
He has made two first team appearances for Manchester United and joins Stoke on a six-month loan deal.
Shawcross is likely to partner Danny Higginbotham in central defence with Clint Hill dropping to the substitutes bench.
Stoke have also signed England international David Unsworth, 33, on trial, though the former Everton, Portsmouth, Aston Villa, Sheffield United and Wigan Athletic defender is likely to be among Stoke’s substitutes.
