Giggs hailed as he helps secure United’s title

We look at five of Giggs’ greatest games for United.

Nottingham Forest, April 1992

UNITED defeated Nottingham Forest in the League Cup Final, after Giggs had set up Brian McClair to score the only goal of the game, which launched the young winger on to the big stage.

It was Giggs’ first medal on the way to becoming the most decorated player in English Football and shortly after the final Giggs was voted PFA Young Player of the Year.

Arsenal, April 1999

GIGGS had been troubled by injury during the season, but was on hand to score arguably the greatest FA Cup goal of all time against Arsenal in an FA Cup semi-final replay.

With the scores locked at 1-1 and the match in extra time Giggs ran from the half way line and dribbled past the whole of the Arsenal defence before he struck a left-footed shot past goalkeeper David Seaman.

Bayern Munich, May 1999

AFTER they lifted the league and FA Cup double United had been trailing 1-0 to Bayern Munich in the final of the Champions League.

Giggs, who played out of position on the right in the final at the Nou Camp, set up Teddy Sheringham’s equalising goal. Ole Solskjaer scored the winner moments later and United completed a treble of trophies.

Juventus, February 2003

GIGGS’ pace tore Juventus defence to shreds in Turin and he scored twice to give United a 3-0 victory helped book their place in the last eight of the competition.

His first goal was a the culmination of United teamwork, but the second was a piece of individual brilliance which culminated in a low right-footed shot after superb dribble from just inside the Juve half.

Liverpool, November 2003

THE winger enjoyed his matches against bitter rivals Liverpool and Giggs ensured his side took the bragging rights in a 2-1 victory at Anfield after an energetic performance.

Giggs terrorised the Liverpool defence and opened the scoring in the 58th minute of the match before he beat Jerzy Dudek for a second time with a powerful shot from outside the box.
