Eight-goal haul puts Trevethin 10 points clear at top

PREMIER Division leaders Trevethin successfully dodged the bad weather, scoring seven first-half goals on their way to an 8-1 win over Llanarth.

Stuart James led the visitors’ goal charge with a hat-trick, while Dean Lewis (2), Shaun Williams (2) and Dwaine Hunt were their other scorers.

Aled Maidment netted seventh-placed Llanarth’s goal and Trevethin are now 10 points clear at the top of the table.

Fourth met third when Pontypool Town entertained Pandy, but they only managed to play for 45 minutes before the match had to be abandoned because of a waterlogged pitch.

At that stage the score stood at 1-1, with Richard Wakeling netting for Pooler and Jason Osbourne doing likewise for Pandy.

Gilwern and District turned on the style in their game against Lower New Inn, scoring four second-half goals on their way to a 4-2 win.

A well-contested game saw Graham Rees (2) and brothers Matthew and Owen Edwards score for Gilwern, with James Mahoney and Ashley Jones doing likewise for Lower New Inn.

Only one match made a start in Division One where New Inn took on Fairfield United. The visitors built up a two-goal lead thanks to Daniel Jenkins and David Roberts, but had a man sent off before the match was abandoned at half-time.

In Division Two Prescoed beat the elements to complete their season’s fixtures with a 3-1 win against Gilwern B.

Grant Watkins, Duane Takata and John Cooper scored for third-placed Prescoed – but will have to wait to see if they finish in that position. Tim Skarratts claimed Gilwern’s goal and they are now sixth.
