County prove too much for Amber Army

Bognor Regis0Newport COUNty2

COUNTY’S plan to turn Bognor Regis into a little corner of Wales worked a treat yesterday as their large band of fans, whose travelling costs were met by the club, were able to celebrate a vital success.

Newport had recently suffered three successive defeats and, after a first half with little action at either end, had everything to play for as they kicked down the slope after the break towards the Amber Army.

In the 51st minute, a left-wing cross from Richard Evans was handled by Bognor’s Andy Pearson and Jason Bowen slotted home the penalty.

Dan Beck missed a great chance to level for the home side on the hour but some superb teamwork from Jason Bowen and Craig Hughes set up County’s second by Lee Fowler on 65 minutes and County closed the game out.

Newport boss Peter Beadle said: “Bognor caused us problems but in the second half we were spot on.”
