Fowler silent on pitch return this season

Fowler silent on pitch return this season

ROBBIE Fowler is maintaining a ‘softly-softly’ approach in his recovery from injury.

The former England and Liverpool striker is making excellent progress and will start training with the squad soon, but won’t talk about when he might be ready to play again.

There is genuine optimism that he could play first-team football later this season, but Fowler doesn’t want to build up expectations about when he might play.

“Robbie is progressing well and is exactly where the doctors said he would be at this stage,” said manager Dave Jones. “But after such a long time out he just wants to keep working.

“We are not setting any targets. Robbie is doing well, but he is not under any pressure from anybody within the football club.”

Fowler, who hasn’t played at all in 2008, has been working twice a day with Cardiff City’s physio and fitness coach in the rehabilitation areas of the club’s Vale training ground.

He has already opened initial talks about playing for Cardiff City again next season and, after a full pre-season programme, believes he would make a goalscoring impact at Coca-Cola Championship level.
