NEW Shrewsbury boss Paul Simpson claimed his first point since taking over as the Shropshire side edged a step nearer League Two safety.
Simpson praised his players for their efforts on a cold and blustery day at Victoria Road as Shrewsbury held firm to earn a share of the spoils.
Shrews edged ahead in the 34th minute when veteran striker Andy Cooke applied the finishing touch to a goalmouth scramble.
Chances were few and far between but Shrews were close to doubling their advantage when midfielder Asa Hall dragged a shot narrowly wide.
Within a minute Dagenham were level courtesy of a crisp finish from sub Paul Benson.
Simpson said: “It’s a good point as this is a really difficult place to come.
“Conditions weren’t great as it was a windy, cold day and the pitch was quite bobbly so it was difficult to play on.
“I’m delighted with the attitude and the spirit we’ve shown but, after being 1-0 up and in a good position, it’s disappointing to have conceded in the way that we did.”
