Canaries frustrated at wasted chances

Caernarfon Town 1-1 Welshpool Town

CAERNARFON Town’s first double of a frustrating campaign still eludes them as they were unable to emulate their win at Welshpool Town in November when the rivals clashed in the return yesterday.

But the Canaries were kicking themselves at chances wasted, notably late on, when Teddy Whelan snatched at a shot from close range and Dean Buckley ballooned over from inside the six-yard box.

Welshpool had gained the lead on the quarter hour through Dave Cunnah from eight yards.

Caernarfon were back on terms with half an hour played, as Phil Clarke slammed a 20-yard special after Bobby Jones had skipped past marker Brett Jefferies.

Close to half-time, the hosts rued near-misses by Bobby Jones and Peter Doran from outside the area and then, in the second spell, John Rowley and Whelan also went close.
