Shrews regroup to draw with Rotherham

Shrewsbury 1-1  Rotherham

SHREWSBURY began life without Gary Peters, who parted company with the club earlier this week, and fought a battling draw against promotion hopefuls Rotherham.

Caretaker manager John McMahon praised the work ethic of his players after they put a difficult few days behind them to stop the rot after a bleak sequence of results.

“It’s a start, it’s a point,” said McMahon.

“The commitment and attitude was first class.”

Shrewsbury might have been excused having that sinking feeling once more when they fell behind after 37 minutes.

A well-worked free-kick caught them napping as powerful mid-fielder Pablo Mills nodded past keeper Glyn Garner, who might have done better.

But McMahon’s half-time team talk was made easier when Shrewsbury pulled level just before the interval.

The goal owed everything to the quick thinking of skipper Ben Davies as he took a fast free-kick and collected a return pass from James Constable before arrowing a rasping 20-yard angled drive to the bottom corner of the net.
