Nomads on road to beat relegation

HERO Sam McNutt grabbed his first goal for battling Nomads to virtually assure the relieved Deesiders of avoiding dreaded relegation – but Caersws are still flirting with danger.

This crucial six-pointer was decided on 38 minutes when following two corners in quick succession, McNutt got the touch as a woeful attempt at clearing the bobbling ball left him with the chance to score off a post with keeper Andy Mulliner stranded.

With the gale force wind at their backs Nomads called most of the shots. However, Neil Mitchell had a great chance in a one-on-one with keeper Paul Pritchard minutes before the goal arrived but turned his shot wide.

A rock-solid defence defied Caersws’ efforts to exploit the powerful wind in the second half and it was Chris Herbert, Craig Jones and Mark Cadwallader who came closest to adding a second.

In a desperate last throw, Caersws forced a late corner and even Mulliner raced up to the far end in search of a priceless equaliser.

But Nomads weren’t yielding.
