Macclesfield 2-1 Shrewsbury
NEW boss Paul Simpson was unable to inspire an instant revival in Shrewsbury’s fortunes after a late Macclesfield fightback.
Simpson, the former Preston manager, looked set to make the perfect start to his new job when half-time sub Dave Hibbert raced on to a defence-splitting pass from Marc Pugh to hammer home his 12th goal of the season.
Shrewsbury were in total control until the lowly hosts left them stunned by conjuring up two spectacular strikes in the last ten minutes.
Shrewsbury old boy Jamie Tolley, the former Wales under-21 international, lashed home a low 20-yarder for the equaliser.
And then Francis Green fired a glorious shot from distance into the top corner of the net.
Shrewsbury had earlier failed to take the chances to put the game to bed with the lively Pugh twice denied by the reflexes of home keeper John Brain.
