HEREFORD suffered a second successive defeat as Stockport set a new club record with seven away wins on the trot.
Although County had the better of possession in the first period, it was Hereford who had the two best chances.
On 13 minutes, Theo Robinson skated away from the County defence on the right but then blazed wide with strike partner Gary Hooper in a much better position.
With 30 minutes played, Ben Smith was guilty of an even worse miss, slicing his shot wide of the target from 15 yards after the County rearguard failed to deal with a free-kick from Stephen Gleeson. Eight minutes into the second period, County went ahead in controversial fashion.
John McCombe was harshly judged to have fouled Liam Dickinson in the area and the visiting forward scored from the spot. Gareth Owen went close to adding a second shortly afterwards as County opened up the Bulls defence again.
