Draw will leave County disappointed

St Albans 0-0 Newport County

COUNTY extended their unbeaten run in Blue Square South to eight matches, but they will be disappointed not to secure all three points from struggling St Albans.

The first priority of the Hertfordshire side was to contain County’s front pair of Jermaine Clarke and Charlie Griffin.

However, Newport missed the sharpness of the suspended Craig Hughes and Nick Eyre and the St Albans goal was never seriously tested.

The home side provided a handful for the County defence, but they created few opportunities, although County keeper Glyn Thompson did well to deny Simon Martin two minutes before half-time.

The County keeper was again in action early in the second half to save a Lee Clarke near post header, but as the game progressed, it was County who had the ascendency.

Griffin looked certain to score on 83 minutes, but he lost control, though Thompson had to be alert seconds later to deny home skipper Clarke.
