IF it’s sunny, then hosepipe bans can’t be far away – but Blue Square Premier club Salisbury City have already been fined for using excessive amounts of water at their Raymond McEnhill Stadium.
The club pleaded guilty to two offences under the Water Resources Act 1991 at the local magistrates court.
They were fined £3,000 and ordered to pay £1,392 costs in a case brought by the Environment Agency.
The court heard there was a history of problems at the club over its failure to comply with the conditions of a water abstraction licence issued by the Agency in 1997.
The licence enabled the club to abstract water from a borehole for pitch irrigation, but Salisbury regularly exceeded the permitted limits.
