Queen of South get European ticket

EUROPE will welcome a new name to club competitions next season when Queen of the South take their place in the Uefa Cup for the first time.

The Doonhamers are guaranteed a place among the continental set whatever the outcome of their Scottish Cup final against Rangers, with the Glasgow side already assured of a Champions League place.

But travelling to exotic destinations for a game is nothing new for QoS.

They were one of Britain’s first clubs to play in unofficial tours, travelling to France in the pre-war years for a number of friendlies.

They even made the short hop over to Algeria for an invitational cup tournament which they duly won.

The cup sits proudly at the club’s Palmerston Park ground – and could soon have the Scottish Cup next to it.
