Mic man blamed for defeat

STOCKPORT manager Jim Gannon had a novel excuse for his side’s reverse at Barnet.

Gannon blamed the 2-1 defeat, which meant the Hatters failed to reach the League Two top three, on the home side’s stadium announcer.

The man with the mic informed the Underhill crowd that Hereford, Stockport’s promotion rivals, were beating Brentford 2-0 in the first half.

That incensed Gannon, despite a half-time apology, and he said: “It was unprofessional. They are celebrating a season of mediocrity if the highlight of their season is gloating about the demise of others.”
