Llanelli closing in on first title

LLANELLI are closing in on their first-ever Principality Welsh Premier League title.

They are top of the table with four matches left – against Airbus UK (home), Connah’s Quay Nomads (away), Newtown (home) and The New Saints (away).

Tomorrow (Sunday), though, Llanelli put league hopes out of their minds when they face Rhyl in their Welsh Cup semi-final at Park Avenue, Aberystwyth, (3.10pm).

Newport YMCA, from the MacWhirter Welsh League, and Bangor City meet in the first semi-final at Newtown today.

Manager Peter Nicholas and his Llanelli team are still chasing four trophies. This week, Llanelli strengthened their position at the top of the Welsh Premier. They came from behind to beat Aberystwyth Town at Park Avenue. Portuguese striker Tiago da Silva scored his first league goal to put Aberystwyth in front with Mark Pritchard and Antonio Corbisiero replying. The 2-1 win extended Llanelli’s unbeaten league run to 17 matches.
