Jones pleased with points

DAVE Jones looked back on a week that saw City’s financial future secured and a win over Severnside rivals, but insisted: “All I cared about was the three points.”

And the Bluebirds boss is adamant his side can still keep up a push for the play-offs after this latest Ninian Park win.

Jones watched his team climb to within seven points of the top six, and he said: “The chairman and the board of directors got the result they wanted, which is great for the club.

“But, in terms of beating our rivals, I’m not bothered about that, I just wanted the three points. We’ve now beaten two of the teams in the top six in the last few weeks and the only disappointment is that we didn’t get anything at Colchester.

“As long as there’s a chance for the play-offs, we will keep going. We’re still in with a shout and as long as that’s the case we will keep believing it can happen.

“Sometimes you can give up too early and then, when you see the sides above you fall away, you kick yourself.”

Jones saw his pal and rival boss Gary Johnson sent to the stands in the tense clash, the Bristol boss snatching the ball off the fourth official after getting wound up by Jones for holding on to it for too long. But Jones jokingly insisted he would pay his mate’s fine after a game in which he admitted he was pleased with his side’s persistence.

He said: “The game was quite tight but we got our noses in front and we had a few good opportunities to get a second. We conceded a bad goal but we stayed firm and got the penalty – we probably deserved it.”
