Newsletter No.53

December 30th 2005

by Mike Caluan

Welcome to the festive edition of the Expats newsletter ...

As you can imagine, Cardiff is in the firm grip of the festive spirit. The streets are filled with bargain hunters and glad-rag clad partygoers all with one common goal... all in search of a 'good feel' fix!

It's great to see people letting their hair down and having fun. I must admit to being a bit of an old romantic, I just love this time of year. It's a great excuse to catch-up with friends and family, it's a way of punctuating the work treadmill.

Don't know about you but I think it's really important to stop and take stock of the events that have passed, the present and question what the future may hold.

So without further ado here's the latest news from in and around your old backyard.

This month: Tom Jones gets a knighthood! Shane Williams swaps his Wales shirt for a swish all-white suit and how a Welshman went from humble beginnings to become an Aussie Prime Minister.

Also, we look at Wales's part in the space race and how Tourists are following in the footsteps of Doctor Who.

So until next month take care, have a fantastic New Year and enjoy the Expats newsletter.

Don't forget to check out the Expats Changing Wales and Expats Nostalgia sections for regular updates on what's going on.

Keep those articles and stories coming in, let me know what you've been getting up to. You can send them to me at mike.caluan@wme.co.uk
