Dairy wins award for safety record

LLANDYRNOG Creamery near Denbigh, which produces the Cadog brand, has been awarded the International Safety Award by the British Safety Council.

The creamery, which is the fourth largest cheese factory in the UK, processes around 300 million litres of milk per year, and produces the award-winning Cadog brand of milk, butter and cheese, and the Dairy Farmers of Britain cheddar cheese range.

The creamery has been producing high quality cheeses since 1918 and was acquired in 2004 by Dairy Farmers of Britain, one of the leading dairy farmers’ co-operatives in the UK. It now produces 15% of all cheddar in the UK, has more than 400 farmer members in Wales and an annual turnover in Wales of more than £80m.

Buyer pays £2m for prime estate

THE Cyffin estate, at Llangadfan, 20 miles east of Welshpool in one of the most beautiful areas of Mid Wales, has sold for more than £2m.

The estate – totalling 504 acres in a highly productive livestock-producing area – was sold jointly by Bidwells and local agent Norman Lloyd.

It comprised a five-bedroom farmhouse with commanding views of the Vyrnwy Valley, a three-bedroom cottage, modern and traditional farm buildings as well as 504 acres of pasture land. The estate also offered fishing and shooting, and spectacular countryside and wildlife.

Cyffin sold in excess of its guide price of £2m, along with some additional land and a further cottage, to the same buyer, a conservation body which aims to preserve this unspoilt part of Wales.

“Despite some good interest from some local landowners we always expected that for this attractive small estate the buyer would come from further afield,” said Jim Bryant, head of Bidwells Rural Agency.

The centre’s new facilities include interactive displays showcasing the huge variety of marine wildlife found in Cardigan Bay, with interesting facts about birds, whales, dolphins, porpoise and the geology of the area.

The displays highlight important issues surrounding pollution and sustainable fishing and offer information on how people can help protect the area.
