Sherlock tells tale of carp

HOPES were running high when Glamorgan AC members arrived at Turley Court for their match on Orchard Pool.

Previous visits had seen catches of carp well in excess of 100lb, but this time the fish played hard to get and the best effort was 34lb 7oz of fish to 8lb from Caerphilly member Gareth   Thomas.

John Cox, from Bridgend, was runner up with 28lb and Caerphilly’s Dean Jay third with 16lb 2oz.

The performance of the day came from Ken Sherlock, who won a lengthy battle to net a 12lb carp that was hooked in the tail.

Sirhowy AS found more fish at White Springs where top man on the Match Lake was Anthony Perkins, from Pontllanfraith, with 74lb of carp caught by pole fishing pellets well up in the water.

Ebbw Vale member Larry Salter was nearest with 70lb 11oz and Simon Jones, from Rhymney, third with 54lb 11oz.

Merthyr carp fishery specialist Terry Jones hit winning form again in the open match at Redhill Fishery, Monmouth, catching 73lb 10oz.

Although it hasn’t been open long, Mathern Mill Fishery near Chepstow is rapidly becoming a favourite with match anglers.

Spencer Works AC fished there and had some good catches, mainly carp, with some bream and tench.
