GWENT SAC members found some fish at Ogmore by Sea and the winning bag was six dogfish, a whiting and a ray adding up to 5.45kg and caught by Owen Davies.
A single small-eyed ray of 4.44kg put Martin Jones in second place and Dan Seymour was third with five dogfish and 2.69kg.
Cardiff SAA fished to measure and release rules at the foreshore and that was bad news for Glyn Hewings.
He beached a 13.5lb thornback ray which would have won easily had weight been the decider, but with a length of 90cm it left Glyn well out of the prize list.
Mike Rowley won after catching 27 fish with a total length of 811cm.
Gary Thomas had 24 fish for his 705cm and club chairman Derek Gamlin kept up his good run in the club’s competitions by taking third prize with 22 fish and 674cm.
There were good catches in the Elysian SAC competition at Ogmore and Southerndown where the best was 30lb 2oz from Mark Pearcey.
He had a busy day as he beached 18 dogfish along with a brace of small-eyed rays.
Barry member Ray Christoforato made his second-placed 23lb 4oz with 10 dogfish, a ray and a conger and the third best catch was 10 dogfish and two rays weighing 22lb by Cardiff fishing lamp maker Bob Radman.
The third round of the WFSA East Region Shore League is at Ogmore and Porthcawl on Sunday, May 18.
Competitors book in at the river end of Ogmore car park by 3pm and fishing is from 4pm to 9pm.
