FISH were far from plentiful at Barry where the best effort in the Gwent SAC competition was a conger weighing 1.29kg caught by Owen Davies.
Ivor Smith reeled in a dogfish, a pouting and a rockling; but their combined weight was only 0.98kg so it was second place for him.
Neil Evans picked up third prize with a lone dogfish that weighed 0.65kg.
The Cardiff SAA competition at the foreshore was fished to measure and release rules and won by Roy Tapper, from Marshfield, who beached 25 fish with a combined length of 728cm.
To make the day even more successful, his son Lewis won the junior prize with seven fish measuring 239cm.
Second best on the day was the 24 fish measuring 713cm caught by Gary Thomas while club chairman Derek Gamlin took third prize with 24 fish and 698cm.
