CONTRACTORS Dudley’s has been appointed by world-leading metals and electronic equipment recycler, Sims Group, to design and construct its new processing warehouse in Newport.

The building is being constructed on the North Quay, South Dock on a 50,000 sq m site.

It will house a waste electrical and electronic equipment recycling plant.

The finished building will be approximately 5,500 sq m with a three-storey office complex attached to one corner. There will also be a staff car park.

Dudley’s starts work on the project, worth an estimated £11m, this month and will be expected to be on site for 36 weeks.

Graham Davy, European chief executive of Sims Group, said, “This investment has been planned for some time and we are pleased to now finally be able to implement our strategy since the Government has laid down its regulations.

“Dudley’s is renowned for its outstanding quality and professionalism and we are pleased that they are on board to execute this brief. This is a great opportunity for Dudley’s and the city of Newport.”

Dudley’s will be working with Cardiff-based HLN Architects and Marald Engineering Consultants in fulfilling the Sims brief. JDL Structural Engineers in Bristol will also be working on the project.

Mike Dudley, managing director of Dudley’s, said, “We feel extremely proud to have been appointed by Sims to work on this fantastic project.”
